Description
Guess what? I finished drawing my new pic. FINALLY.
OK. This is my first attempt to actually use any digital tool to draw on my own, not trace, any video game character that is not Kirby or anyone even easier to draw than Kirby (for example, Tippi).
Pictured is Lucius, a MALE monk from Fire Emblem 7, the first one to be released worldwide. He's there as an art practice, although I do think of actually using him for my Super Moron Bros CS4. Maybe have him interact with Vivian for the whole gender gag. Or maybe have some confused character mistake him as Princess Peach. Mwahahahah.
Well, this is how things go in the making: I draw stuff, edit them, do small fine-tuning and on and on. Used the Pen Tool for most of the time, although at some areas I get lazy and simply use the Selection Tool. My favourite part is to draw his hair. Converting realistic drawing to a cartoon style sure is good. I had this work [link] to reference to, making the official art/cartoon style comparison far easier.
Thanks, , for your reference pic.
My least favourite part is his face. That's what makes him doesn't even look like Lucius. It's Paper Mario style, so I gotta use eyes like this, but it seems to destroy his cutesy image somehow. And his smile!!! I just don't know how to handle his mouth!!!
Coloring has been very easy. I think I'll like cartoony styles for this. Most other types of art tire artists to death on the colouring part.
Trivia on this pic:
- Unlike my traced pics, this one does not require me to outline the line, thus repeating drawing the same line 2 or 3 times per character.
- I used Peach's Paper Mario appearance as reference a lot. Lucius is THAT feminine.
- Like Peach's vectorization, I made his hair - normally unseen in actual screenplay - in quite some detail.
- I decided to skip details of his robe just because I'm lazy.
- I keep forgetting that I'm drawing a guy during production process. I keep thinking I'm going to draw a girl.
- The farther I work into this pic, the more I want to give him a huge glomp. I'm virtually holding him tightly now in my imagination. Maybe someday I'll draw that one out.
- This is not the first time I draw, but is the first time I try to apply a new style to an existing character, with no knowledge on any drawing technique beforehand.
- I aim for accuracy than style, and use precision tool like the Pen Tool, instead of hand-drawing tools like the brush tool.
- I've got some problems in life to handle soon. Good news that I managed to finish the pic before that.
- This trivia has 10 points, including this one you're reading right now.
Oh, and constructive critiques are VERY welcome this time.
Alright... enough talking on such a small, insignificant pic. For those who're with me all the time in my process of drawing, feel my laziness! I mean, a whole week just to draw this thing?
